EDXRF analyser

Fluorescence X analyses provide the gems’ elementary chemical composition. The majority chemical elements that make up the gem can be quantified, up to the trace elements. As it is non-destructive and rapid, this analysis is essential for laboratory gemmology.

Detecting synthetic materials due to the presence or absence of certain elements (for example, absence of Gallium in most synthetic corundum)
Geographical origin of gems such as corundum, by detecting certain characteristic trace elements.
